Initiative brings social and environmental benefits after hurricane

Hurricane Melissa damaged over half of Jamaica's forested land in late 2025 – vital space that supports local people and wildlife.

To support recovery efforts while creating lasting community benefit, Intertek Jamaica colleagues organised a tree planting initiative at a primary school in Kingston.

The team donated and planted 10 fruit trees, including cherry and tamarind, enhancing the green spaces on the school grounds used for socialisation and recreation.

With many of the school's students coming from underprivileged communities, the new trees will also provide regular access to fresh fruit.

To ensure that the trees are properly cared for, we will continue to work with the school groundskeeper as well as providing organic fertiliser and additional soil for mulching when needed.
